From the hip on Bourbon Street about midnight

In photography class last semester, Vaughn Wascovich showed us pictures where a photographer randomly shot urban street pictures from the camera on his hip. Sorry, but I don't remember the photographer but I remembered the technique while walking down Bourbon Street about midnight last week.

This was so much fun. I didn't try to focus. I didn't try to compose the picture. I just walked down the street with the camera about hip level and randomly clicked when something struck me as interesting.

People didn't react because they thought they were getting their picture taken. In fact, no one paid any attention to me at all. I did use a flash but I was already down the street and most people didn't know where the flash came from anyway.

These aren't the best pictures in the world but they were really fun to take!

Evan Martin

Evan has the most beautiful blue eyes and the sweetest disposition. I think he and his mom, Sandy, had a great time taking photos for my class. Thanks a lot for helping me!

Portraits of Mindy and Logan

What a fun day I had photographing Mindy Moree, our Chamber of Commerce Executive Director and her daughter, Logan.
Both mother and daughter are beautiful inside and out.
We have a lot more great pictures than this for Marvin to choose from for this week's formal portraits!

Lamar County Judge's Portrait

Chuck Superville

Which one do you think he should use for his next campaign?

Or, do you think I need to some different pictures of him in a less formal studio setting?

I was trying to do an open loop lighting technique for class but I am open to any and all suggestions.

Travis Writing

Kicker Lighting

This is a picture of my son writing using kicker lighting as the technique. He writes a blog on MySpace as The Wise Sloth.

My intent was to make the journal the focal point of interest in this picture which is why it is the brightest object. The composition element is the triangle composed of his arms and body.

Your comments are most welcome!

Portrait of Tallie Moore Bush

These are pictures of artist, Tallie Moore Bush.

She wants a picture to put on her website at: http://talliemooreartist.com/Home_Page.html

Our plan is to take some more pictures of her in natural lighting and also at her studio.

Any comments or suggestions will be most appreciated.

Comments Suggestions and Critiques Requested!

I am taking a formal portrait photography class this fall. Any comment, suggestion, critique, observation will be most appreciated. Don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings. I'd rather read something on GoogleBlog and have the opportunity to correct it before it gets put before my class and have the teacher give his oral remarks in front of everyone else!

Our assignments include Rembrandt, Open Loop, Split-Face, Butterfly, Kicker, Flat, Rim, Reflector, Broad and Short.

We must incorporate the following types of portraits into the final submissions: head and shoulers, full body, 3/4 body, profile, fashion, boudoir, glamour, bride, high key, low key, infant, toddler, teen, senior citizen, couple, family group, sports, theater, or small product.

Here is what I have taken for week 1
