The 1st Photograph is in Austin

If you are traveling to Austin over Thanksgiving, you might want to stop by and visit the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin on 300 West 21st Street.

The website suggests that you call first and make sure they are open. The number is 512.471-9124.

The Helmut and Alison Gernsheim collection includes the world's first photograph, created in 1826 by the French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. According to the website the photography section " currently amount to over five million prints and negatives, supplemented by books, manuscripts, journals, and memorabilia of significant photographers since the medium's invention."

I want to see this piece of history! My next trip to Austin is going to include a trip to the UT campus.
